THE LOWDOWN
Let's drill! If you arrive first, unlock the wheels before moving net into place, then lock. There are four courts at this venue, and Rec players usually begin showing up by 8:30 AM.

Drilling will take place from 8-9 AM for now, after which players can usually stay for rec games. (See the Hope Highlands group in Player Lineup for info on rec games at this facility.) On some days, two of the courts are dedicated to tennis play. Mainly, though, there is at least one court available at this time of day for drilling.

A SAMPLE DRILL ~ LOW AND SLOW

Pickleball is a game of SKILLS, and there are many to master. One skill can often counteract another. For instance, a slow and low backhand can often defuse a ball hit hard and fast to the chest. Conversely, a ball hit fast and hard can overtake a slightly high dink. This drill has something to offer both scenarios, but concentrates on the soft return. .

THE DRILL

Player 1 stands at the NVZ line. Player 2 stands on the opposite side of the net in the transition zone. Player 1 hits a friendly ball to Player 2, who returns a hard and fast ball. Player 1 then attempts to defuse the ball by returning it low and slow. Player 2 then catches the ball, and the scenario begins again, in the opposite direction. Be sure to adjust where each player is standing when you switch sides. Both players will be working on two different skills. Bonus: you'll also get to practice walking backwards every other switch.
