THE LOWDOWN
Let's drill! If you arrive first, unlock the wheels before moving net into place, then lock. There are four courts at this venue, and Rec players usually begin showing up by 8:30 AM.

Drilling will take place from 8-9 AM for now, after which players can usually stay for rec games. (See the Hope Highlands group in Player Lineup for info on rec games at this facility.) On some days, two of the courts are dedicated to tennis play. Mainly, though, there is at least one court available at this time of day for drilling.

A SAMPLE DRILL ~ ANOTHER WAY TO PRACTICE AND GAMIFY A THIRD SHOT DROP DRILL

This drill is helpful because both players will be working on a skill. One player will be working on their third shot drop, while the other will work on keeping the opponent back.

Before turning this drill into a game, practice it a while first. Instructions on how to gamify this drill is in the final paragraph.

Player 1 stands at the baseline. Player 2 stands at the NVZ line, ball in hand, and hits it deep to Player 1, who then executes a drop shot into or near the NVZ. Player 1 returns the ball deep, and Player 2 again drops yhe ball into the NVZ. After a while, switch positions so that both players get to drill both skills.

To gamify this drill, score it as follows: the player at the NVZ line needs to score 11 points in order to win the game, while the player at the baseline needs 7 points to win. This method helps to level the playing field, because dropping is more difficult than simply hitting deep.
